Memoirs of Kayuagung, part I

My first stage as a clinical clerkship or co-assistent or dokter muda or u named it was Pediatrics. It took 2 months to accomplished, divided into two parts, the first one was at the Palembang Teaching Hospital (Muhammad Hoesin Hospital) and the the second was RSUD Kayuagung, each for about one months.

What i'm going to tell is about my interns at Kayuagung Hospital. It was only one month, but i guess i'm not going to forget the lessons i got forever.

The most different thing workin there is that we are totally in charge to take care about the patients, especially when the working hours already finished because after that, the pediatrician was only can be reached by phone and she won't come to the hospital. So the procedure is like this: if there is a patient need some cure, we ourself decided what to give first, and then call her to ask and make sure.

The hard time happened on the night shift, especially when we got a critically ill patient.
And it happened for me, and the rest of my friends also.
It was my first time to dealt with child or babies or newborns who need life support. At some moment, we did it succeed to save our patients life, but there are a moment when we can't help them more, especially when the condition and disease reached its worst.

And it was my very first experience...
To have a child or baby or newborn who passed away in my hand.
Although the pediatrician and textbook had already say about the big chance to loose them because of their worst condition, but still it hurts so bad.
It seems like you suddenly have a whole world in your chest.
so you hard to breathe, can't say any words, and all the things you would never imagined.
These feelings mostly happened for some minute after the patient passed away, though the effect would last at least one day.

But then you gotta faced another hard thing: telling the bad news to the patient's parents.
God, for me this is one of the hardest thing to do. But usually, as i experienced there, the patients parents understand that we did our best.

God...It's not easy.

Matilda by Roald Dahl

Matilda sangat jenius, selain juga amat cerdas. Sebelum berusia lima tahun, dia sudah membaca karya-karya pengarang besar. Tapi orangtuanya menganggap dia hanya seperti ketombe yang menjengkelkan. Matilda memutuskan untuk mengurus dirinya sendiri. Ketika "diserang" Miss u Trunchbull, kepala sekolahnya yang amat sangat kejam, dia baru sadar ternyata dirinya punya kekuatan supernatural. Lalu Matilda memakai kekuatan istimewanya itu untuk menyelamatkan sekolahnya, terutama guru kesayangannya, Miss Honey.

Saat beberapa waktu lalu pergi ke Toko Buku Gramedia di PS, ternyata lagi ada sale. Yeeaaa, tadinya ngira seperti biasa bahwa buku-buku yang diobral adalah buku-buku yang ga laku doang, eh tapi ternyata ada satu buku ini. So freakin' happy.

Matilda merupakan salah satu buku karangan pengarang buku anak-anak terkenal di dunia, Roald Dahl. Wah, ga tau apa buku ini buku berharga hehehe, buku ini masuk ke dalam list 50 buku yang harus dibaca sebelum mati versi majalah bukune lhooo :p Buku ini merupakan pemenang Children's Book Award. Seperti yang diceritakan pada sinopsis resmi di paragraf atas yang merupakan tulisan di sampul belakang bukunya, Matilda merupakan seorang anak jenius yang lahir di keluarga yang sangat bertolak belakang. Matilda menyenangi buku dan ilmu pengetahuan sedangkan ayah, ibu, dan kakaknya menganggap acara hiburan di televisi adalah acara wajib.

Di dalam buku ini akan dijumpai kisah-kisah Matilda sehari-harinya, mulai dari kejailannya dalam membalas orang-orang yang tidak adil padanya, rasa sayangnya pada gurunya, dan hal-hal jenaka lain yang dilakukannya.

Buku ini telah diangkat ke layar lebar (saya pertama kali mengetahui Matilda melalui filmnya) dan filmnya sangat bagus.

Memang dalam kisah ini memiliki unsur yang mustahil seperti kekuatan supernatural yang dimilikinya. Namun, Matilda memberi pengaruh besar dan nyata pada saya. Pengaruh tersebut datang pada bagian-bagian dimana Matilda amat menjunjung tinggi membaca dan buku.
